  • You’re assuming that the set of people surveyed was truly random, but it never is—people who don’t like answering surveys are always underrepresented (obviously), and the article isn’t specific about how people were recruited for this one. There isn’t enough information to tell how much skew might have been introduced as a result. Surveys are always kind of iffy as information sources: not meaningless, but with a lot of subtle noise in the signal.

  • There are no less than 7 shows either continuing from a previous season that I’ve watched or where I’m familiar with the source material. (Not including Kingdom, which I might catch up on one of these centuries.)

Other than those, I’ll probably at least check out Metallic Rouge, Sengoku Youko, Meiji Gekken: 1874, possibly Isura, and probably some of the isekais that aren’t labeled as “ecchi” or “harem”. (7 lunch hours/week x 2 eps/lunch = 14 slots to fill . . .)

Anime treats Christianity about as seriously as it treats Buddhism or any other faith, which is to say not at all. There are comedic takes like Saint Young Men, some exorcist stuff like Vatican Miracle Examiner and the priest character in Ghost Hunt, and occasionally someone will take a look at the history of Christianity in Japan (for instance, the Christians Arc at the beginning of the third season of the original Rurouni Kenshin). If you’re looking for something that’s Christian in philosophy, you aren’t going to find it.

  • You can justify maybe up to one year of lag with “we overscheduled, oops”. But twelve months should be plenty of time to clean house and get things sorted out. (WIT Studios were actually the ones doing Attack on Titan when they had the four-year break between seasons 1 and 2, and I don’t approve of them doing it either—however, the reasoning behind it seems to have been marketing-related rather than poor scheduling.)

T’be honest, it looks to me like the management team at MAPPA has bitten off way more than they can chew, and that they’ve been following that pattern for a while. It isn’t a matter of taking their time or not, it’s a matter of not accepting more work than they can actually do.

  • I’m honestly expecting another layer somewhere below this with the nobility having been brainwashed, except that we won’t find out about it until near the end of the story. I mean, in addition to halting most interaction with other kingdoms and all advancement, there are entire classes of luxury goods that a mindless drone can’t produce. No art, no fashion—and those are things that stereotypical aristocrats care about. Plus, how are you going to produce the next generation of drones? Some of those “nobles” might be okay with watching what amounts to the same porn scene over and over again, but how many infant-nappy-changing commands can your average oligarch tolerate giving?

    Maybe I’m just too optimistic.

    How about . . .

    • Berserk
    • Black Lagoon
    • Dorohedoro
    • Psycho-Pass
    • The Skull Man
    • Zipang (I’ll place a warning on this one for a treatment of WWII on the Pacific Front that many people are not comfortable with. It’s an interesting, nuanced show if you can stomach it.)
    • 91 Days
    • Heat Guy J

I admit that I’m not sure of the licensing status of some of those.
