Now I went and checked Firefox and those same 2 settings are also set to False by default, BUT Firefox does not have the same cpu overuse problem when playing video that librewolf had before I changed these 2 settings. I am trying to figure out what’s going on so I can make a helpful recommendation.
The post you linked to recommends disabling hardware acceleration. This does not seem to be my issue. Also you told me to ask @librewolf but that leads back to this forum. Is there someone with that name or did you mean to make another post?
Yes, setting these 2 to True fixed the problem. I am curious if there was a security reason for this, or if it was just oversight.
Yes, I’m on Linux and LibreWolf compositing says: WebRender (Software), my Firefox however says WebRender without the “(Software)” and Brave says “Hardware accelerated.” Firefox and Brave consume similar normal amounts of cpu. LibreWolf does not.
So if my Firefox has acceleration, then shouldn’t LibreWolf also? Do I have to add it or enable it somewhere? Thanx
It seems that you only get to see posts made after you subscribe according to above replies.
Why isn’t there a Brave fork yet that gets rid of the crypto junk?
It probably boils down to funding. People need to get paid at the end of the day. The ultimate solution is a paid browser that works only in the user’s interest, but people are spoiled now. They want everything for free, and they want it to work perfectly also. The reality is that nothing is free in life. You either pay with money or in another currency (your info).
I would suggest not using sites and services that require a certain browser. That is the only way to counter this attitude of Google. If you have to for your job or something, use Brave only for that and keep everything important on librewolf.
Vivaldi is a nice browser, but doesn’t do too well when you look at the technicals. It is also bloated with side panels, email, calendar, notes, etc that I didn’t want. Unfortunately Vivaldi and Brave are trying to out “extra” each other.
But why am I able to see older content and comment on that from other instances?
You’re right. I discovered that after posting this. I’ll delete it. But video doesn’t play correctly when not enabled.
