The reason this is important and timely is because the messaging around these tools implicitly suggests there is an air of authority and integrity it would be impossible for them to have given that no journalists have examined and analyzed the mechanisms of these tools at any stage of their development.
Why on earth would a journalist need to have input on authentication tools??
Surely this would be more suited for a cybersecurity expert?
Not that I’d trust an AI-based authentication system anyway.
The post title and body don’t make this clear, but “AI authentication tools” in this context refers to tools that verify the authenticity of journalistic image and video media to confirm they’re not AI-generated.
Yeah, this could have been worded better… Maybe the post title and body were AI generated?
I suspected as much, but I’ll need to consult a journalist to be sure
It’s also not a commonly-used term. “AI authentication” mostly refers to using machine-learning AI as an authentication method (eg image recognition, behavior observation, etc.)
This sounds more like just “fact checking”.
Maybe try having your AI read the article twice before commenting next time?
Exhibit A:) Liberal Arts education > STEM education
Because getting a liberal arts education means you use input from people unqualified to provide that input?
Getting your BA doesn’t qualify you to do code security reviews. Most journalists get that information from people who are qualified to do so.
This isn’t about code security in the way being an expert at cutting down a tree doesn’t mean you understand the way forests move.

In fairness, a lot of news organisations are run without input from adequate journalists.
Rule 2.
Rules rules rules rules!
A very mature response, thank you.
Is it really necessary for me to explain why you should know this?!
Yes. It helps prevent low effort and low quality posts.

I happily take that invitation!
“How come there are individuals that think on their own? I thought everything in the world was a reflection of my own consciousness. I cannot fathom a world where people don’t share my thoughts and experiences.”
Indeed, very few people know journalism jargon, and authentication has vastly different meanings depending on the sphere of human knowledge one is inserted into.
Alternatively:
“Surely the rules don’t apply to me?”
In fact, they do.
