Hi! Brand new Lemmy user here!
Let me know what you enjoy the most about Lemmy! Let’s share some thoughts and ideas!
Well, it’s in the honeymoon phase right now, so everyone is cheerful, happy, and nice. All the jerks haven’t moved over yet… 😀
Gonna have to make the most of it while we can! 🤩
It has been so nice. It is like living in a social media utopia
It certainly has! I have been on here all day… I keep telling myself to log off but here I am.
It’s only a matter of time, for sure. I doubt that the mass comes over from reddit, because reddit has the bigger network effect (as of right now). However, this could change if Lemmy continues to grow and stays consistent over the years, unlike reddit. Keep these nfts away from here, lol. But certainly there will be many more people who will discover Lemmy in the future. This would be sooo nice!
It feels like I’m exploring the internet again, like I did when I was younger. I’m figuring it out and learning how to use it and that in itself has been really satisfying.
It’s really refreshing tbh!
this feels so cool, to be apart of something new, in its early face. I love this feeling. Now I know how the people with Bitcoin felt in 2009 or so. Kinda discover something truly amazing that is not widely found by the masses of people.
Federated services and decentralized internet feels very much like the early days of being “online” and it’s exactly how the internet was supposed to work!
Exactly this, and it’s excellent feeling too!
I like how I can post something without getting instantly shadowbanned or automoderated for not having enough karma or an old enough account. When I would try to post on reddit using a VPN (just Mullvad, not even Tor) all my posts were automatically hidden.
That’s quite alarming to say the least…
I just started using Lemmy and I’m excited about it. It reminds me of the first day I used Reddit, that nostalgic feeling!
I like that there can be different fediverse social media, all run independently but connected. I’m new to the topic and learning more about it before I contribute to the github but its a very interesting concept. And the fact that there are other services like PeerTube, makes it seem like more of an open source version of the internet. TLDR: Inter-connectivity
I really find that interesting too!
It reminds me of the older internet. Not necessarily in form, but I hadn’t realized how the same everything I’d been doing online has been. Like… for the last 15 years.
Lemmy is different and kind of unintuitive and challenging-but-also-easy, if that makes any sense. I made geocities sites and wrote blogs and whatnot in the late-90s. That’s the kind of energy going on here right now. It’ll change, but for now I’m enjoying it a lot.
It definitely still feels like it’s just sorta getting started, but this platform has got a lot of promise. It’s been pretty easy to get going thus far. I can definitely feel how the population is tiny in comparison to reddit, and it’s honestly a little refreshing.
Enjoying vibe and atmosphere. There is an intimate feeling because of the current size and lack of toxicity.
I’m convinced the amount of toxicity on reddit and every other shit platforms like twitter, youtube etc is just inflated by algorithms. Fuck them, let’s take the internet back, and teach these old farts that they have no power here. They are not welcomed here.
People arguing ➡️ money
Could not agree more!
Generally nice community, none of the posts are “whats the sexiest sex youve ever sexed” or anything like that
Honestly those are just karma farming attempts, nothing genuine about the question.
It feels new and fresh but also retro, if that makes sense? It feels like a missing link between old school forums and new school aggregators like Reddit, even though I think this format is newer than Reddit. Could be wrong though. Either way I’m enjoying not every post having a billion replies before i even get to it!
Very true! I’m really excited for a fediverse Reddit replacement!
no ads, no dark patterns, none of that annoying stuff. I love it
I’m new here too, to the fediverse as a whole really. I was mostly a lurker on Reddit but the smaller community here makes me less anxious to interact with different posts. I’m excited to see the community grow.
Same here. I feel like I’m talking to actual people and not the hive mind.
The availability of usernamesLike Mastodon, not being controlled by one souless company, but many people. Sure, one instance may be, but it’s one in a sea of thousands.
I’m digging it. I hope it keeps it up.
It’s weird but I like how can you see the ratio of upvotes and downvotes for each post/comment people make. It makes it feel less like a mob going towards/against a single thing and more personal.
That’s a good point!
