I don’t see a problem here? Or is this about the hundreds of dollars of “smart” tech that I ripped out of my home when I moved in because it was programmed to only function if someone else controlled it? I don’t let stuff like that operate in my house.
But anyone with enough technical know how to hack their own devices should also be able to have the technical know how to configure their own router and automation server?
The crossover I can think of is people who got compromised devices for cheap and can’t afford to replace them — AND their devices can be re-flashed or otherwise jailbroken to behave responsibly.

Not very useful when your LG TV just decides to hop on any open network in the area to transmit their collected personal data. And they’re just the ones that got caught, no way to know what the others are doing.

exactly this. i have friends and family that have comparatively limited technical knowledge but still ask me about grapheneOS or hacking their quest headsets. you are in the very small minority compared to others, but more and more people are waking up to just how invasive the stuff we “own” is.

congrats!
i’m going to go out on a limb here and say you are not the target audience of this video then.

We should both take Google et al to small claims court for the work we put into not being tracked by them.
