I think that I’m an idiot while simultaneously believing that I’m the smartest person in the room; and often, there’s ample evidence for both conclusions.

Too often we equate good at one set of mental tasks with good at thinking. In reality, being a prodigy at organic chemistry does not give you any edge at financial planning over your average Jane.

there is however such a thing as “bad at thinking but too stubborn to stop” and that’s me (and nobody else)

Anyone, given enough time, can become competent at a thing (for the most part).

The real danger is those believing that makes them competent at everything else.
