    I’ll do you one worse, because the US coastal South and Caribbean has a tree that kills you if you touch it, the manchineel.

        Horrible fact I learned from a podcast: during a hurricane in 1935, to escape a 20-ft storm surge, a man climbed up to the top of one (keep in mind, the tree is toxic enough that just standing under one while it’s raining can give you blisters) and lashed himself to it to avoid drowning, because it was the only tall tree left (even chopping one down requires a lot of prep and careful work to not aerosolize the toxins).

        He lived, reportedly.
