I think cameras are the primary reason why we are seeing a significant shift in support for police.
Even to this day, people filming is why ICE tends to retreat.
I support cameras. I absolutely do not support tech companies making these cameras, and using the footage to train AI or worse, violate individual privacy.

The killing of Michael Brown and the following unrest in Ferguson was the first major police action in the US in which independent news correspondents streamed live footage on the field, and it didn’t get filtered by news agencies. It showed the police in their full brutal glory, wrecking the neighborhood with their MRAPs and saturating the area with CS gas without any objective except to make the community unlivable.
The world was aghast.
A similar thing happened during the George Floyd protests and then again when footage from Gaza escaped the internet. Apparently the public has no stomach for police brutality, for relentless military strikes on civilians or for genocide when they get to look at it up close.
