The dog’s markings and the bad lighting are creating an optical illusion. The head is turned sideways and the splotchy white fur separates the eyes.

Yeah but why is there a hole in the dog’s left cheek?
That’s just the back corner of the mouth/jowl. The rest of the mouth isn’t as visible, since it seems the top is over the bottom
