Well, the OP’s username certainly checks out! Sleep apnea can be a big, common cause of snoring, (especially funny/weird snoring,) since your body is desperately trying to keep you breathing and alive against other parts of your body that are trying to do the opposite, all while you’re not getting enough oxygen, lol. Then you’re pooped and foggy all the time because that kind of sleep is nooot all that restful. A lot of people don’t even realize how bad it is for them until after they got treatment.
If this sounds like you or someone you love, and getting a sleep study is an option, please talk to your doctor about getting one! I gave a really simplistic explanation of it, (sorry, my brain is disabled trash,) but it’s a serious – and usually super treatable! – condition.
Just an FYI for others: you can have sleep apnea even if you don’t snore; in the same vein, if you snore,it doesn’t mean you have sleep apnea. For instance, my partner started snoring once he became overweight. He did a sleep study, which confirmed no sleep apnea.
But if you suspect sleep apnea, get a sleep study asap. It can cause various health issues such as diabetes, heart issues, high blood pressure, etc.
My bf has it. It’s that “funny kind of snoring” where he sometimes stops making sound (but I can see him breathing), literally jolts awake while gasping for air, wakes up for a couple of seconds and falls back asleep…over and over again. When the choking part comes, it scares the shit out of me and I literally jump. It’s baaaad.
I finally convinced him to get it checked after a looooong time of trying to live with it. I think he got a sleep study? He got a machine to put onto himself at night to monitor one night of his sleep. We returned the machine with the recorded data, but we never heard back from the doctor. I’m gonna get him to go again, cause it’s honestly terrible, on top of that he only sleeps like 6 hours and he doesn’t take it seriously at all. sigh

I unfortunately see myself in this, since I only recently did the ‘go back to your PCP to follow up on the sleep study’ part after a year of not hearing anything back. I really wish I had done so sooner.
Absolutely encourage him to follow up with the doctor, and if at all possible, REREAD the sleep study results and actually understand what it says (research if you have to!). I was regularly getting down below 87% SpO2 (you’re not supposed to go below 93%…) and it made me feel like microwaved dogshit. I got a CPAP and it has done wonders for my sleep. I’m actually trying to get my wife to go in for one as well, but it will be interesting to see how we can get the hosing to her spot in the middle…

I started snoring after years of drinking heavily! After quitting, I no longer snore.

Anyway, rant over. Bf snores.

I can second that feeling of “microwaves dogshit” sleeping without a CPAP.
Wear it even for naps; it helps (as advice to the top commenter)
Sounds like sleep apnea, definitely get a diagnosis on that!
