The thing is new magic is flashier but fundamentally does the same you did with old magic 10 winters ago. Our crystal balls and wands have gotten more capable but to the point where the average spellcaster won’t even get to make full use of them. Good thing there are independent wizards around who craft old magic style spells to this day so you can still get some use out of your old equipment. I’m using Arch Mage on an ancient ThinkOrb btw.

The old magic is also likely efficient because it had to be to work with the orbs at the time.

I miss getting a scroll from a fellow wizard which had all the runes you needed on it and it was also small enough it could fit in a pocket and if you had bad taste in music it even playered a bit of a dong as you were reading.

Honestly annoying if the Akashic records just ignore a word of your query instead of just stating that there’s no match.
Also, how yhe hell does the Akashic record have no matches? Shouldn’t it at least return the query itself?
I just switched to a different record after they started including that egregorian nonsense on every tablet they had, not like they were useful anyways considering all the temple advertising.
I tried to get some spellcasters to switch to a different orb mage for their spells, but they’re all at the same three temples of טיקטוק ,אינסטגרם, and יוטיוב to even learn how to summon the line scripture.
The commoners don’t even use their crystal balls or look at the compendiums because they’re all stuck on their genie lamps nowadays to know how to use a wand.
