Echo chambers are shit, it’s the reason the world is the way it is. If you want to sit in a circle and jerk off with people that share your opinion then be my guest, but to pretend it’s a good thing is a bridge too far. Honest discourse and people checking each other is the foundational rhetoric of a democratic society, without it democracy dies.
The outside world is full of conservative hate and outright racism at the moment, it’s ok to have a space where people aren’t actively hateful. Surrounding yourself with hate every day is more detrimental imo. Lemmy gives me a feeling of hope.
