There’s an important distinction between not caring about race in the sense that you treat all people you encounter with equal consideration, and not caring about race in the sense that you disregard all racially based socio-economic concerns. A person flippantly expressing a lack of caring reeks of the latter.

You demonstrate by behaving accordingly. If you treat people equally, you shouldn’t need to tell people that you do.

Yep, white people have an incentive to claim we aren’t racists, our egos and social statuses generally benefit from these claims. Because of that we can’t be taken at our words on the topic. Only our actions can be trusted

One would hope that’s the case. It’s not always. I wouldn’t word it like the post. Typically it’s more so “one people, one love” or “we are all together” or something to that affect. Particularly if one is in a sensitive circumstance and where you stand on this subject is the question at hand.

It also says a lot when someone’s goal is for people to know you treat others equally. That may make them feel that you do it more because you want the social kuddos so to speak. If the behavior is for appearance more than for equal treatment of people, that’s also an ick. Just be authentically a good person and people will treat you accordingly. No good person goes around saying they’re a good person.

One would think. One must remember that racism at least on an interpersonal level isn’t one direction. In group theory systemic racism is typically from the dominant group towards the non-dominant group. In interpersonal racism anyone can be racist towards anyone anytime. All it takes is making positive or negative assumptions about someone based on their race. The situations I’ve found myself in is where someone was assuming something about me without knowing me just based on my race.

Nothing you say will ever reassure anyone that you aren’t a racist more than just not being a racist.

Of course actions speak louder than words but that is a bit outside the hypothetical given.

I won’t play in a hypothetical given in bad faith when I have given the answer. You are trying to draw out an answer to the question “what words do I use to convince people I am not a racist?” And the answer is “There are none. You must behave in an unracist like manner to demonstrate that you are not racist.” There are no additional details no matter how unfair you feel that may be.

You cannot control what other people think or feel, you may only demonstrate yourself to them through actions and behaviors. Lots of people will not like you on first sight because of one preconceived notion or another. There is nothing you can do about that. You can only control yourself.
