    Of course a fortune article will end with “get a job.” They want this to be a cautionary tale that encourages capitalists globally to crack down on “lazy kids” unwilling to “serve the system”

      This is not endorsed by the CCP. The cultural mainstream in China encourages wage slaving away in their hyper capitalist system. Refusing to participate in this system is a real problem for the government, as it makes their society look bad. It shows that people don’t believe in the grift, which indicates that things will get worse for the rulers unless something fundamentally changes.

      The CCP definitely does not want these people abstaining from work. That’s why “general strikes” are so powerful.

      Free elections are not a thing in the CCP, and protests get ignored if not cracked down on. Also, you could neglect to work and still get out of bed to vote, in a democracy. (I’ve done that for years in the USA). But China is not a democracy.
