V funny to me that this works with the “estrogen” meaning of blue pill, but you can also interpret it as the “incel” meaning of “redpill”. Transitioning frees you, i.e. taking the estradiol pill, which acts as “the red pill”. But people who are “redpilled” are actually just playing into society’s standards instead of breaking free from them, hence “taking the blue pill”.
“To break away from the modern dogmatic society and cookie cutter personalities, to become a true Free Thinker, I must imitate everything that this wildly popular antisocial dickflute does!”
estrogen pills do tend to be blue/green now instead of red 🤔
big pharma ruined the metaphor
“Try to realize the truth… there is no pill.”
I am also of the opinion that red pill is also a synonym for woke, as far as definitions go. Both are defined by being aware of some larger truth about society.
But, even if the definitions are the same, their connotations are vastly different depending on who is using it.
The real red pill isn’t rejecting democracy—it’s rebuilding it.
the red pill was at least to value honesty/truth above your desire for comfort. you could infer a few more values from the context (e.g. some cloud of transhumanist ideals). more broadly the movie suggests one particular form of society as undesirable – and the case for why right-wingers are abusing the red pill is as simple as they’re pushing for the form of society from which the red pill was an exit.
but the red pill was not a push for democracy: none of the societies shown in that film were particularly democratic. much less was society after the red pill a rebuilding of the current/prior thing. so i feel like that article is rather abusing “redpill” as well.
Precisely, it’s so rude that such a lovely scene was ruined by idiots tbh.
Wanna put on the other two?
don’t you mean the other thr– *crash* *wham*
What if they were both the red pill, Morpheus just knew what neo wanted
