Unless this is from a fox sanctuary, I find that behaviour worrisome.

And if it is from a sanctuary, what are they feeding the foxes?

Just the number of loose foxes makes me guess that this might be sanctuary in Japan called Zao fox village

I assume this is a serious comment, but as for where or when this image was taken, I wouldn’t know as it’s just an image from the internet.

It could be a sanctuary, or it could be wild foxes (though with how close they got to the person taking the photo, maybe the former?)

As for what they’re eating, who knows but foxes very commonly get significantly thicker fur coats for the colder seasons. The foxes in the image seem to just have very thick fur

Sucks to have to link to Reddit on Lemmy, but ‘Fox Tale Sanctuary’ has a good example on one of their posts 2 years ago https://www.reddit.com/r/foxes/comments/1eryxlk/same_foxes_different_season_pt_2/

        You assume correctly!

We can see the foxes have their winter season coat on; they look very fluffy and bushy tailed. But also look at bit on the chonky side. Some a bit on the extra chonky.

A sanctuary wouldn’t over feed their charges. And wild foxes are usually wary of humans to have excess food come their way.

So, a nice image but so many questions left open.

        More pictures, please.
