Bit of a naive take. Seems like people here assume everyone lives in a densely populated urban area and people only buy trucks as a status symbol or something and maybe use it seldomly for trips to homedepot.
It’s honestly bizarre to me just how out of touch with reality this is…
This is literally what EVERY PERSON WHO HAS A TRUCK SAYS.
Sure some of you are right, I don’t give a fuck what someone drives in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, but you can’t all be right since I see these stupid, murderous vehicles ALL OF THE TIME around me in densely populated areas.
According to the numbers everybody pretty much does live in densely populated areas, the percentage of the population of humans that lives in rural areas is tiny compared to the population that lives in more densely populated areas. This is a basic mathematical reality you are ignoring.
edit if this comes off like I am bashing rural places or their needs, I am not, honestly people can have all the pickups they want in the middle of nowhere in wide open spaces with almost nobody around, nothing about my anger really has anything to do with that.
Thank you lmao. The USA is like 80% urban, 20% rural by population. We have this idea that we’re a nation of farmers and truckers but it’s just not true. Shockingly, most people live around other people
This is literally what EVERY PERSON WHO HAS A TRUCK SAYS.
I just find it amusing honestly. Would you expect a continuation of the circlejerk?
I have a car that I drive until I need to use my truck…which I do often as I’m in the middle of building a two story off-grid cabin.
It always just seems like sheltered urbanites screaming into a void when the topic ever arises here. Blanket statements, black and white suggestions, and the incapability to understand why one might own a truck.
Many people don’t need trucks, but many do. Calling them all stupid because you don’t have a need for one says more about you than them.
Try putting a quad in the back of a van and tell me how it goes.

That is because you don’t realize how small of a portion of the population lives in cities vs. rural areas. I have literally already stated how people who are in rural areas are not the problem with pickups inherently because the vast majority of human beings live in cities/urban areas. Think about the logic here, it is natural for you to feel this way given most of the people online are going to statistically be people who live in more urban areas than you do and experience annoying things that you do not as you live in a different type of area that is uncommon for people to live in. That is cool! Keep living in the woods, I love the woods, but please stop pretending like I am talking past people like you when I am not. You are talking past me and not listening to my words.

This is also literally what everyone responds with a pickup too, it must be in the manual!
Try putting a quad in the back of a van and tell me how it goes.
Isn’t that basically how most non-street legal racing vehicles are moved? I mean sure a pickup is fine for that, so is a trailer even though it is more annoying… but this is all entirely missing the point of what I am saying.
It’s honestly bizarre to me just how out of touch with reality this is…
Explain to me why the large construction project parking site outside my window is full of pickups. They are only used to commute to the site, for actual work, they use company vehicles.
Of all the choices for a work vehicle, pickups are the dumbest choice, which is why real contractors use vans.
It’s all trades cosplay, fueled by tax rules that push trades to buy heavy trucks. So all they money they save in tax, they can spend in fuel.
They might have to move large power tools to and from work in their pickup truck beds, and you wouldn’t see these when the trucks are parked because they’re using the tools.
Tradey here! Work vans are absolutely not the best work vehicle; it’s highly dependent on the trade/style of work. Not sure why this is so often repeated.
Crash safety standards… the reason why most vehicles have gotten slightly larger
People wanting an all in one vehicle (unfortunately it’s sales that drive design on this front)
Towing capacity (in this case). An F250 is a benchmark when it comes to heavy hauling. People that buy these things and don’t use the tow capacity are dumb. It’s a shit ride without a load since it’s…designed for hauling.
Right, the F250 is basically a small semi in disguise, you can even put a fifth wheel in the bed to tow campers and whatnot.
Problem is that a lot of people get these for “work”, but then literally never tow anything with it bigger than what a Ford Ranger can tow.
#1 doesn’t explain the whole story, but yes, part of it is because American auto manufacturers, and NHTSA crash testing, focuses way too much on occupant safety. So does the IIHS to a lesser extent. Peak individualism.
#2 is true, people want their vehicles to do hypothetical things as a virtue signal, but it’s like getting a jeep and literally never taking it off road except to jump a curb at your local Tim Hortons because the queue was too long. When I need a pickup truck… I rent a pickup truck. Wow! And save money the rest of the year and enjoy my sporty compact hatchback that is comfortable and is way cheaper on gas and safer for everyone around me.
Can’t imagine having to rent a truck each time but I use mine 3-4 times a week lately to haul shit on my trailer and I just bought a 30’ travel camper… different strokes.
Otherwise, it’s an old but pristine Saab or a light weight manual RWD sports car for me.

Damn son. You take yourself too seriously. Nobody gives a fuck lol. Go outside homie.
goes outside
gets hit by pickup truck

The rest is fairly accurate.
You’re saying these tradecraft don’t use their personal trucks to haul shit outside of their day job?
Picture taken in a densely populated area.
And trucks do not need to be that tall, we used to have trucks the size of my car with just as big of a bed.
Heck, we used to tow big RVs with sedans.
Yeah, I get that for sure.
There are three things at work here

You’re the exception, owning a truck makes sense for you.
I’m also the exception here, I shouldn’t own a car near downtown Montreal but I need one to drive out for work across the province.
