so far the weekend has been pretty good. currently: writing about labor stuff, also reading this book. it has been a pretty mild and wet spring so far which is rare for here, and i’m enjoying that while it lasts
Weekend was cool, cooking with local Food Not Bombs folks and chilling out on a concert. Week is mediocre, work + some flat repairs. Happy that there’s so much sun last days, afraid that there’s no rain though. Normally it should be raining at least once a week.
It’s cool you’re working with FNB. I love my local chapter. We’re supposed to get like 10 straight days of no rain and hot weather here in Northeast Ohio.
Saying that, today’s another sunny and dry day.
Yes, FNB is fantastic, I met great people there, I’ve even introduced few of my friends to it, also my mother was there last week and she appreciated a lot what people there do for others.

damn that direct action!!
Well, what can I say except that our bird feeder just got raided. I was able to photograph the perpetrator as s/he made his/her escape.
That is a very fat bird…
Oh my god he’s so round xD
Such a cute murder machine
Good! Long weekend for me as an American, so I got to relax a bit before I’m moving the next two weekends. Plus I’m finally getting to see the various medical professionals I need to figure out some nagging aches and pains. Only drawback is now I need to find time to do all the different exercises they are giving me, which is easier said than done!
Hello, Lemmy. It’s my first day with an actual account here, so I’d say the week is going well.
Happy cake day.
Aww, is that a thing here too?
Yup
TL;DR
I’m about to make more money than I ever imagined and I don’t know how I feel about that right now.
I’ll think about making a longer post about all of this in /c/chat sometime in the near future.
That’s exciting! Happy that you’re getting that opportunity, whether you pursue it or not. Curious to hear more.
I can say the following right now. My biological brother is trying to transition from working for his current employer to going out on his own. He has, roughly, 25 years of experience in this field that he wants me to be the CTO. If I agree, then I could be making 6 figures (or more) for the rest of my life.
That’s exciting! I remember when I got my first real software development job and tripled my salary.
My advice is that you may be surprised to learn that you still need to budget. Even a hefty six figure salary can easily be spent if you’re not careful.
Thanks for the heads up.
Not knowing the specifics, it sounds like a great opportunity. I hope you find the decision easy to make and that you feel right in the choice you make, whatever it is.
Sounds promising! I career-jumped from arts admin to data science to go from 35k to 61k and then there was a 10% company-wide raise a couple months after I started, so I pretty much doubled my salary.
Nice!
Pretty nice now that I’ve found this place. Looks like the Apollo app for Reddit is shutting down because Reddit is getting greedy, so I’m thinking Reddit is done-for and looking for new places to get my fix. This looks like a nice one. Is it?

it is very nice if you can live with the fact that content is sparse sometimes.
If there’s one good thing about established social media sites making bad moves, it’s that the decentralized, donation-supported model seems to be trying to take their places. Honestly, why I hadn’t heard of doing it this way earlier is beyond me. Perhaps it needed Patreon to normalize donation models outside of NPR circles.
I think it’s a kind of global learning curve, people need to experience it a few times how the free corporate sites turn against them. Maybe we’ll all learn to appreciate less polished but community owned spaces in the end :)
fool me once shame on you, fool me every day of my adult life still shame on you, get bent capitalism
Ha! Maybe so?
Some have said that it’s one of their favorite Lemmy instances.
Lost Mullvad port forwarding, RARBG, and possibly Reddit 3rd party client.
I don’t want to be that kinda guy but why is the Internet getting shittier every damn day?
“Enshittification”, as Cory Doctorow calls it, is a real thing :)
Here is how platforms die: First, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die.
I call this enshittification, and it is a seemingly inevitable consequence arising from the combination of the ease of changing how a platform allocates value, combined with the nature of a “two-sided market,” where a platform sits between buyers and sellers, hold each hostage to the other, raking off an ever-larger share of the value that passes between them.
Lord its so accurate, although tumblr of all things seems to have survived this process.
Do you think Reddit would still be good if they hadn’t gone publicly traded? Because then they wouldn’t have any financial incentive to milk their users so long as they broke even…
I think my next indie game is finally taking shape. There’s a lot of work to do, but I’m mostly going to re-use systems I wrote for my last game, so that will save a lot of time. I think my environments look great.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with Midinous which is a generative sequencer. It’s super powerful considering how few concepts there are to learn. It covers a lot of the tricks that I’ve learned from modular synthesis, but in a more approachable way.
Ugh that’s amazing. I wish I had the follow-through to ever finish anything :( I need to contribute to things before making my own probably.
Following through is the hardest part, to be sure. I think we all struggle with that.
I walked six miles over the past four days compared to zero miles over all the days 😁
Had a wonderful date tonight, so feeling pretty good about the week. It’s been mostly slow, with the exception of a few interesting events. Sunday night to Monday morning I got to see the legend ltj bukem at a local club and get in my first dancing since EDC. I also saw a friend whom I hadn’t seen in awhile who’s been going through some difficult times and I’m glad she’s doing well, all things considered.
I got a augmentation, I saw my girlfriend, and I got a new phone. Pretty good week!
I have had a pretty good week so far. Some work, some uni, some do whatever I like. It’s been good lately.
With the hype around Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, I have finally started playing Breath of the Wild and it’s been a blast so far. I love the basically sandbox world with a suggestion of storyline, it’s been so fun to just explore.
I went back this past week and finally beat BotW. The first 20 or so hours made a great impression on me, but as the pace of finding shrines slowed down, I started to get bored. I don’t have a lot of time for games, and if I play for 30 minutes and didn’t really find/do anything except walk around, I’d feel like I wasted my time.
It’s a good game, but I don’t think I really enjoyed it. If I was in the mood for Zelda, I’d probably re-play Skyward Sword or Spirit Tracks instead. I’ll probably give TotK a try in a few years when it’s not so pricey.
I get what you mean, when things slow down the big world can seem more empty and less fun and fulfilling especially when you’re otherwise busy. I have no doubt that day will cone for me too. Until then, I’ll enjoy it and save storyline stuff to keep a little purpose on the horizon.
Sounds like Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks are a bit more directed then? If that’s the case, I’ll keep that in mind as well on my Zelda journey.
Going well so far. Been prepping for doing some user testing with some of my coworkers over the coming weeks, for a new version of a reporting application we use.
