Every few months I get the insatiable urge to make “peasant dinner” which is just a big loaf of bread (usually sourdough), butter, and some kind stew.

    Highly reccomend

It’s not that I lack the ability. It’s that i live alone (not counting The Fabulous Staredycat Sisters since they’re not offering any help in that area) and don’t have the attention stamina to do anything more involved than putting something in my oven, microwave, or air fryer and take it out when it’s done.

Provided that I remember to set a timer on my phone when using the oven so I don’t forget all about it with disastrous consequences again…

If you have a slow cooker or dutch oven, making a basic stew is a simple as cutting veggies and throwing that with some broth and beef cubes for a few hours. Spice it with a lot of thyme and garlic. For a better broth, consider red wine (the cheapest is fine) and thicken it with corn starch.

I always do stews for myself and I live alone. You can store the extra portions in mason jars, keeps very well, though if you’re doing that I recommend whole small potatoes since cut ones will dissolve over time.
