I feel the same way. They were in a Judas Priest mobile game; had the main song on the Halloween remake soundtrack; they’ve been number 1 on numerous charts on several occasions around the world; they’re a spectacle on par with Kiss or, this will be the second time I’ve mentioned them today, Gwar.

And yet… they’re unheard-of outside small isolated circles - in my experience, usually only random individuals; I don’t think I’ve ever run into a group of ghost fans in the wild.

I think at least a portion of it is the global situation. Everything is so muddied now compared to even a decade ago. Music, though not entirely diminished, seems to be less in the collective focus - or at least, the focus on music is more scattered than it may have been in times past.

Yeah. I think the big thing is that music isn’t generally a shared thing these days, it’s something you listen to yourself and maybe share with friends and family in some situations (e.g. car trip) and even then your personal tastes have to align enough for that to be bearable.

Whereas back in the day my dad has stories of like, meeting up with his extended friend group to all listen to the new Black Sabbath album.

    Are you on the square?
    Are you on the level?
Are you ready to swear right here, right now before the devil
