Fighting fascists with lethal force is not incitement of violence. It is act of self-defense and defense of the ones you love and care about. People who apologize for fascists directly, or in the “enlightened centrist” way are no better than the fascists themselves. If you find yourself defending Nazis you should check yourself, otherwise you’ll soon find yourself one of them.

Carrying Nazi imagery should be considered a reignition of hostilities, and be met with overwhelming force.

Its not a call to violence, it’s meeting a threat head on.

Aligning fascist isn’t something you self-identify as, it’s shown through actions. You choose to defend fascists either due to aligning with them or doubting our judgement and resolve, you are still apologizing for and defending fascists, and that makes you one of them bud. If you don’t align with their beliefs you shouldn’t defend them, as fascists or as human beings or you’ll find yourself surrounded by them instead of decent people. You know, Nazi bar and all that jazz.

My god, don’t get me wrong I’m on your side but your post reminds me of the pAraDoX of tolerance. There ain’t no fucking paradox. Tolerance is a social contract and if you violate it by hating a certain group of people just because they exist then you violated the contract and we no longer have to tolerate you.

IIRC the person who coined the term said the same thing. It wasn’t actually a paradox, it was just meant to illustrate that tolerance is not absolute and so you cannot tolerate people who will not tolerate others themselves.

It’s supposed to remind people of the stupidity of the “paradox of tolerance”

My goal is to hopefully to spread the idea far and wide that “tolerance is a peace treaty” that hopefully more people will think of it when they encounter the kind of people who scream things like “so much for the tolerant left” and the like.

Having the tools to fight nazis (rhetorical or otherwise) being spread far and wide will help us to defeat them again.

If there’s a chance of a cure for the disease I’d rather let that person live so they could become an example of redemption.

The undeniable life long psychological toll of taking another human’s life, regardless of the justification.

            The creating of martyrs.

            Counter violence begetting more violence.

Depriving other humans of a friend, loved one, family member etc generally works as a great recruitment strategy - which is best avoided.

The colloquial use of the word fascist versus its actual definition.

Silencing of opposition doesn’t always have the intended consequences.

            etc etc

P.S. Having said that, if they’re wearing matching armbands and shirts whilst tooled-up and marching towards someone’s house because of how they were born or their lifestyle then, yeah, it’s probably time to load up and take the safety off. Gotta draw a line somewhere…

It’s more like calling for the execution of the executive of a video game company.

Or fantasies about the graphic, gruesome death of some public politician who’s just a… regular human being, with a family. Not perfect, but not literally Hitler.

    I don’t think it’s funny, at all.

Like, I’m all for killing Nazis, but Lemmy goes waaaay into “squick” territory.

It’s legit scary to me, and I’m more politically extreme than like 99% of the general population. But every time I bring it up, the community seems to double down on it or dismiss it as a non issue (like here).

I guess I’m just not welcome here if that makes me uncomfortable?

I don’t believe in the death penalty for multiple reasons, but im not shedding a tear over them. And the politician could be so many people including trump and gee i wonder why people would say such a thing about him and his ilk.

Youre either making things up to feel superior, misattributing them to blahaj, or just a plain bad actor with either the goal of protecting pedophiles or protecting tessersct. Could be any of those truly

I mean misattributing wouldnt be acting in bad faith, firstly. Secondly, they come into a community to disparage them for doing something thats explicitly not allowed (bc it would get the instance taken down if nothing else) and is extremely nebulous about what they mean. And you phrase it as “showing concern.” Very cool, very fair take from you

How is Trump not a Hitler-level threat? He’s upended the world order, started multiple wars of choice, assassinated heads of state, called for the prosecution of his political enemies, is operating Concentration camps, attacked the judiciary, demanded persobal loyalty oaths from public servants, caused millions of deaths, and more.

His name may not be named Hitler, but that’s about it.

Doesn’t seem like that to me. In an ideal world we would be able to give (ex-)nazis a chance at redemption. Probably not actual forgiveness, probably a lot of them would not take it - a tragedy. We do have to accept that this is not an ideal world and it might just happen that it would come to actual violence and death. I think it’s fair to look at people who laugh at the concept of killing a person, that deny humanity to others and be worried. Now, is it wrong to deny humanity to nazis? I personally don’t know, it certainly doesn’t automatically equate you to them, but in an ideal world it would be wrong. Its also much easier when it’s a concept of a nazi and an actual person, that one friend that got pulled into a really bad crowd and so on. This kind of memes are a very simplified narrative, and that just sometimes does not satisfy some folk

I completely agree with you on giving ex nazis chance to redeem themselves, as long as it’s far away from any position of power or authority

The issue is in getting a nazi to become ex-nazi, you can’t do it peacefully or fairly, you might not even do it altogether because the odds, the systems, the motives are all stacked against you

You’re not wrong you’re just setting the bar very high for resistance while looking away at how low fascists moved theirs, with everyone fully knowing they’ll happily kick over the whole scaffold holding it up like they did time and time again, the bar is just symbolic to them and the goal is to win and execute all other competitors at the end

It’s not about who’s moral or right, i mean sure you can make it about it you’re just not going to get anywhere while you’re growing weaker and the cage is getting smaller with time, it’s about making a change, and you’ll never achieved it unless you come to terms with how weak the resistance to fascism(and frankly everyone else not fascist) is and why it is, if anyone is going to burn a billionaire at the stake invite me please

Examples please. Also, blaming the entirety of Lemmy for, as an example, my call for Israel to stop being a country, is the same error that got me kicked off Reddit. Context matters.

If I’m calling for them to stop being a country because of their religion or ethnicity, then I’m a bigot and a Nazi and should indeed be removed.

If I’m calling for the end of the theocratic state that holds one group above all others, then I can be reasoned with.

It depends on the capital owned by that person. If they’re just a high level accountant or a minor player with little influence, they’re not worth the trouble. If they’re a major shareholder at a company that’s exploits its workers, then a lot is justified if it results in the end of the exploitation (it likely wouldn’t tbf). It doesn’t matter if they work in the games industry or the fossil fuels industry; the owning class needs to have their power stripped from them, and they aren’t gonna give it willingly. That will only ever happen through violence, be it state or non state, threats or actions. There is no other way to accomplish it, and anyone who thinks we can do it peacefully is wrong.

As far as public politicians go, many of them gleefully pen laws that lead to the deaths and ruin of innocent people. As the right to freely vote and elect alternatives to these ghouls gets further and further eroded, it might become literally impossible to remove them by voting rather than practically so. If the only ones allowed political power are people that terrorize the population with the law, then what voice do the people have? If the only party in charge is a Nazi party, then shouldn’t you be ok with killing them?

What I will agree on is that fantasizing about punishing people is not helpful. Terrible people cannot be made to feel the weight of their sins, only prevented from doing more terrible things. If all the kings and lords willingly gave their wealth and power back to the workers and civilians, then it would be wrong to seek retribution. It’s also unlikely that killing a terrible person or two will really change things. A lone act can only ever be a statement, terrorism of the ruling class.

However, that also means that we shouldn’t consider if someone is a sympathetic person, only the totality of their past and potential future actions. They might be a good spouse and a good parent, but if they are responsible for imprisoning minorities and starving children, then they need be stopped. Billionaires and the politicians that support them are orders of magnitude more dangerous to humanity than serial killers, and need to be treated more harshly than they are. If unpleasant violence is the best way to stop them, then I think it’s wrong to be against that.
