I do not for the life of me understand why people do this. Shoes: go great with socks and cold weather
Thongs & sandles: go great without socks and warmer weatherThe avantages of thongs/sandles is that they have airflow and are easy to get on & off, wearing socks with them both hampers airflow and also are fully exposed to getting wet or dirty. Do you also wear a sweater over your bathers? A beanie over a sun visor? Breifs with your assless chaps?
They’re cooler than shoes but warmer than naked feet in thongs. Also, people might have gross stuff on their feet (e.g. warts, or those bad toenails that are apparently really hard to get rid of) that they’re not comfortable showing.
It stops the bottom of the sock getting dirty from the floor. Even a floor in a clean home will have small amounts if dust and/or pet hair, and walking around the house in socks makes dirty socks.
I wear socks with flip flops like the one on the left around the house. My husband calls them my pig feet and he haaaates them. Sometimes I take off the flip flops and the cloven toe sock remains for a while. He super hates that haha
The Japanese have been wearing tabi socks for hundreds of years. It’s infuriating that it hasn’t caught on here especially considering the advantages that sandals bring in a world that will continue to get hotter for the rest of our lives.
looks weird
I was gonna bring those up. I’ve only ever seen them twice, from the same person. They look weird, but I gotta imagine that they’re at least somewhat comfortable to still be in use today. Practical too, considering they’re the only type of socks I know of that you can wear with flip-flops/toe dividing sandals without damaging your socks.
I love them. They tend to be more practical than toe socks, which can cause some issues because people tend to have drastically different toe lengths.
Tabi socks with Bedrock sandals is the happiest my feet have ever been.
All good to rock the sandals without socks though. Helps with the heat, even
It does indeed! I hike in sandals, however, and hate applying sun screen to my feet. The socks are mostly sun and abration protection. When you’re putting in 10 to 15 miles in a day the socks start to get important.
Bedrock sandals sells a pair of tabi socks on their website, which are great, but only come in polyester.
If you’re hiking in more mountainous terrain the foot protection and keeping rocks out also becomes important. Non-waterproof hikers aren’t that much less breathable in my experience, at least not enough to warrant the downsides of sandals.
Not to say it’s not okay to hike in sandals if you prefer, but I think there’s good reason to hike in shoes and why sandals haven’t become as popular.
Makes sense!
I guess I would opt for roman-style sandals for that type of hiking which would come with out-of-the-box regular sock compatibility.
I find that unnecessary, you can just pull the normal sock like 1cm out and put the flip-flop, the extra sock space will take the form correctly and you don’t need a specialised sock.
Look up Tabio
Their website does look promising, thank you! Bedrock Sandals, who I have bought several pairs of sandals from, sell a pair of tabi socks on their website, but they only sell polyester. I’ve been looking for durable wool and cotton versions of the same thing.
Teva and socks nation rise!
is teva a brand name or like, the name of the sandal type?
Yeah it’s a brand. But there are tons of cheaper similar ones everywhere. That said my Tevas have all been extremely durable, comfortable and quality made.
Just as pictured. Very sensible.
Tabi aside, what’s with the yellow tips…?
Piss
Some people don’t like the toe thing, but personally, I don’t like wiping the rim with my hand.
Brand of sock called Gold Toes
Rejected Bond villain opened up a sock factory?
Let me tell you about Birkenstocks

Both independently of either.
