Some Germans shorten “Die Klimaanlage” to “Die Klima” which is pretty close to “Das Klima”, meaning climate.
Personally I prefer “Der Klimat” (with the t at the end) just to fuck with people, because everyone understands it but nobody likes it XD

idk how much spanish people say “estreamer” but no one, and i mean fucking no one says “joueur-animateur” in french. we just say “streameur”, because it turns out that you can’t really change a word that implanted itself into common usage, especially not when your proposed alternative is infinitely worse (somehow both too vague and too specific, and also too unwieldy to say)

It’s a meme, there is a sheen of irony on there, which is true to your point : people aren’t going to say joueur animateur, but it’s “based” (futile and arrogant) to put rules that you have to say their joueur animateur. And by going along with what people actually say (estreamer), the RAE is wimpy and beta.
My actual gripe is that the RAE is too beta to include other things to help minority communities, like the “tod@s” stuff to be gender inclusive. It’s in fucking use, why include other things but not that?

anyways, yea i do get the meme, and i agree with u about the RAE… and now that i look at it my reply is a bit tone-deaf… i just hate the french language establishment so much lol, it could actually do interesting stuff to help evolve the french language but instead it proposes ludicrously out of touch things (i know i’ve said it before but acolyte des illustres???) and polices people’s language (especially in quebec as you’ve pointed out in other places)

I did very much enjoy that exchange as the mutual semi-intelligibility between romance languages, I thought looking it up too hard would have ruined it.
I still wish they would be more bold with introducing much needed changes to the languages. As a shitty polyglot, I do get frustrated that there’s too much english in the other languages when I try to speak it with friends and family. I know “leptop” is easier to say in turkish, but I want “dizüstü bilgisayarı” since it’s the actual turkic fucking word for it.
French is such a stupid language I cant tell if that is real french or not.
It’s real French but it is just as silly in French as if in English we would say “machine for controlling the cooling of air in the interior of the building”, and nobody would use it. The joke about the language police is apt for the general behaviour of the Academie but not actually real in this case. French is probably less stupid than English tbh, although the rules about pronunciation vs spelling are over the top, at least they’re still way more systematic.
The Academie is out of touch with contemporary french language. They got laughted at when they released their latest dictionary which stated FRANC was the official currently, despite the EURO replacing it 20+ years ago.
Commercial dictionaries like Robert or Larousse are more useful or up-to-date. The Academie dictionnary seems mostly useless sadly.
English is like 40% bastardized French so the stupidity of each must be in lockstep to some degree

I did 5 years of it and they call it la clim for short (pronounced cleem). Climot sounds very real to me as well, but I don’t think it is.
